Let me tell you about the OC universe Emily and I have!

Since it's been five years since we first established our little universe, and I haven't really mentioned much in a while, I figured I'd explain a little something about it. I think the most important thing about our universe is that it's actually set about 30 years in the future. (Eg. Jardy is born on October 31st, 2024 and is role played and drawn in her late teens to early twenties)

This age group started off with Harlow, (my character) and Rei and Mamoru (Emily's characters) who all coincidentally ended up being the same age. (I could go into it but there's just so much background with this, but this is who it started with, and this is what matters.) All three characters have heterochromia and two-tone hair, so when this "generation" caught on, other people, who we were friends with at the time, began making their own characters around their age with heterochromia and two-tone hair. (Even though it wasn't even a "rule".)

We knew from the start that it was nothing more than a fad, and we were proven correct when some of these characters ceased to exist or were simply put in an earlier "generation". Some even refused to acknowledge this was set in the future and didn't use their birth years to help us with ages, just whatever they went by for ages and expected us to follow the same route. But since this is set in the future, we don't go by "real time", and draw and role play our characters at any age we feel like. The years and locations are very loose, but my head canon has always been that they live somewhere in/near America because, unless they have specified accents, I imagine them all to have some American accent.

The environment is very loose, too, but I imagine it to be very much like modern day; no flying cars, no hoverboards, no robot butlers, just average 21st century people. The only difference is, as to be expected, more advanced technology. We try not to use, like. Celebrities or the like in context because that would just be confusing, and I couldn't imagine Lady GaGa, thirty years from now, flaunting her stuff in as little clothing as possible.

As far as I know, Emily and I are the only ones of God-knows-how-many to still have characters in this timeline, and it's kind of a shame that it turned into a big fad and was eventually forgotten because everyone just got over it. We both have so many characters in this timeline and they all mean a lot to us.

So if you ever see some survey I've done on my characters, and it asks how old the characters are, and I put something like "(2021)", it means the year they are born.
